A Record of Achievement on Addison City Council

In May 2007, Todd Meier won a seat on the Addison City Council, earning the most votes by a wide margin over two incumbents.

Excited to make a difference in the town where he has lived almost all his life, Todd played a key role in:

•  Worked with a fellow Councilmember to develop a 90 day model for business retention that led to the unanimous Council endorsement of our present business retention efforts. As a Councilmember I have personally made over 40 visits with a key staff person to visit Addison businesses to thank them for being customers of Addison and open the lines of communication as well as resolve any issues they may have with us.

•  Voted against the tax increase of 2008/2009.

•  Worked with Staff and Councilmembers to develop our Sustainability Philosophy, which was ultimately approved by a unanimous vote of council. The Philosophy includes a serious commitment to recycling, energy conservation, and water conservation as well as the development of guidelines to encourage sustainability in new developments like the UDR project, Vitruvian.

•  Helped council and staff focus on the service deficiencies of our wireless internet provider, Red Moon. We held Red Moon accountable for service improvements by requiring monthly appearances and updates to council.

•  Helped Council and staff focus and bring a sense of urgency to dealing with the increasing law enforcement challenges brought to us by one of our extended stay hotels.

•  Proposed and Council adopted a practice of having Quarterly public brainstorming idea and policy sessions, where ideas and issues could be openly debated. The practice was followed for all of 2008.

•  Organized and facilitated a Saturday morning economic development workshop attended by council, staff and local stakeholders to begin a dialog and process for developing our economic development strategy.

•  Voted in favor of strict enforcement of our sign ordinances.

•  Voted in favor of private development at our airport.

•  Worked with a dedicated group of Town employees and Councilmember Jimmy Niemann to suggest revisions to our Town's employee retirement plan to significantly reduce the Town's unfunded liability. The Council subsequently enacted those revisions.

•  Worked with staff at our Service Center to develop and implement a fleet technician productivity and efficiency tracking system.
